چکیده

native method of obtaining hepatic tissue for pathologic diagnosis in patients with parenchymal liver disease, but in whom conventional percutaneous transhepatic liver biopsy is contraindicated due to coagulopathy, a large amount of ascites, or massive obesity (1, 2). Transjugular liver biopsy is also indicated in patients with liver function deterioration following liver transplant and in patients with congenital clotting disorders (1, 2). There are generally few complications following TJLB; the liver-puncture-related major complication rate was reported to be 0.2% in a review of 64 published reports involving 7,493 adults who had undergone TJLBs (2). We have treated 3 patients with intrahepatic pseudoaneurysms following 503 TJLBs in 320 liver transplant recipients since 2005, and report our experience for managing intrahepatic pseudoaneurysms following TJLB.

Fulminant liver failure due to severe veno-occlusive disease after haematopoietic cell transplantation: a depressing experience.

BACKGROUND Between 1988 and 2002, eight patients were referred to our unit from other institutions, for management of fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) complicating severe veno-occlusive disease (VOD). AIM To review our experience with these patients. METHODS Retrospective analysis of medical case notes. RESULTS In 7/8 cases, a histological diagnosis of VOD was confirmed by transjugular liv...

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt for chylous ascites in a patient with recurrent cirrhosis following liver transplantation

Chylous ascites (CA) is the extravasation of lipid-rich lymphatic fluid into the peritoneal space following trauma or obstruction of the lymphatic system. Refractory cases of cirrhosis-related CA may be amendable to transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunting (TIPS). We present a case of TIPS in the setting of refractory CA secondary to cirrhosis of a transplanted liver graft. Following TI...

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt for a wait list patient is not a contraindication for orthotopic liver transplant outcomes.

OBJECTIVES A transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt for treating recurrent variceal bleeding or refractory ascites can be used as bridge therapy in patients awaiting a liver transplant. However, incorrect placement of the transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt may complicate surgery during a liver transplant. This study sought to analyze a cohort of transplanted recipients to unde...

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPSS) for Budd Chiari syndrome.

We report a four year old boy who presented with liver failure secondary to anti-thrombin III deficiency related Budd Chiari syndrome. He was treated with TIPSS (transjugular intrahepatic porto systemic shunt) which reversed the encephalopathy, normalised the liver function and improved growth, pre-empting the need for a liver transplantation. This is the first reported case of TIPSS in a child...

Safety and utility of transjugular liver biopsy in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients.

PURPOSE Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients are at high risk in the setting of percutaneous liver biopsy as a result of comorbid coagulopathy and ascites, and are commonly referred to undergo transjugular liver biopsy. The present study was performed to assess the safety and utility of transjugular liver biopsy in HSCT recipients and to analyze the correlation between corrected...
